BERGERAC

Next Le Bugue

Margaret was recovering from a cold so we took the train from Bordeaux and started our cycling holiday at Bergerac.

The historic center of Bergerac is beautiful but fairly small. It is separated from the river by a very busy through road and the large sloping cobbled expanse by the river – which has so much potential - is wasted as a car park.

We had an excellent, and moderately priced, lunch at a restaurant which didn't seem to have a name apart from the street number ‘21’.  It was very pleasant relaxing at an outside table in the warm sunshine.

The afternoon was very hot and we spent most of the afternoon relaxing in our room. We were staying in a Bed and Breakfast run by an English couple. It was in one of the old houses situated in a small square and very nicely renovated.

After exploring the old town we had dinner at a more upmarket and recommended restaurant.

It was more style than substance and the head waiter was annoyingly snooty.  At the end he asked if we had enjoyed our meal and Margaret said ‘average’ in a dismissive tone.
