Montalcino Previous Next Florence

It was very windy and we decided to go by train to Siena. However when we had cycled down the long hill to the railway station at Buononvento the wind was quite light so we decided to cycle after all.

It was a pleasant ride but the wind was strong and cold in places. We even walked on one exposed stretch because side winds made it difficult to control the bikes.

The apartment was in an old apartment building and pleasant enough in an Ikea sort of way. There was a selection of cassette tapes rather than CD’s and it all had a sort of 70’s feel.

Siena was larger and more commercial than the towns we had visited thus far. There were many foreign tourists, but mainly freelance rather than in organized groups.

We were woken up at 3am by the sound of people wheeling luggage along the street. There must have been an early bus.

We had dinner at the Lonely Planet recommended Antica Osteria da Divo restaurant.

The Lonely Planet says it is 'midrange' but it has gone up-market (and moved across the street) and was expensive. However the food and service were excellent.
