The ride to Hijum was uneventful. We
had booked a cottage attached to the highly recommended
restaurant Leafe Sâwntjin! owned by Jilles
Dijkstra and Caroline Bos.
The cottage was spacious and pleasantly furnished and
the hosts welcomed us and made us feel at home. Caroline
is an excellent chef whilst Jilles is an expert on wines.
They have a cooking show on the local TV station, which
was filmed while we were there. |

We had pre-booked the
six course menu and Jilles selected matching
wines for us. We had one room of the restaurant to ourselves,
apart from us there was a group of about 20 in another
room. Jilles spent some time telling us about wines, foods
and the local area. |
