Stein Am Rhein Next Bad Ragaz

We continued along the Rhine. The flat and well marked bicycle path ran along the side of the lakes and the train track.

The views of the lake are magnificent. We paused at a modest cafe for a double espresso and were shocked by the price. Coffee can be ridiculously expensive in Switzerland, so if you are on a tight budget check before committing.

We stopped for an excellent lunch at the Krone ‘Romantik’ hotel in the charming village of Gottlieben, don’t bypass it.

The food and service were good and the price reasonable. If our schedule had allowed it we would have stayed over, but we had to move on.

Our rented apartment was in the village of Grub above Rorschach. We hadn’t realized that it was 400 metres above and we pushed the loaded bikes 6km up the 18% hill, arriving after 8pm in full darkness.

We couldn’t see our lodgings, but when the blue dot of the GPS was on top of it Simone saw us through her window and came to greet us.
