FRANCE 2008: Trip Report

PROVENCE
  Marseille

We were visiting my brother and his wife in Marseille. On the first day we took a ferry to the islands of Frioul. The weather was fine and the islands are beautiful, we explored the extensive network of second world war gun emplacements.

On the second day we took the bikes on the local bus to Aix-en-Provence. There was no problem putting our bikes into the storage racks on the bus.

We were cycling around the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, made famous by Cezanne's paintings.

See the video of cycling in Provence around Montagne Sainte-Victoire (use left arrow to return to this page)

The road was rather fairly busy until we turned off onto the back roads at Vauvenargues where we stopped for lunch. Picasso bought the Chateau de Vauvenargues in 1958. He is also buried there. They don't encourage visitors.

We arrived back in Aix as the light was fading and the cycling holiday complete.

Next year, Switzerland.
