CYCLING FRANCE 2008: TOP 5

Top 5

Best Rides

Burgundy Canal

Luberon Bicycle Route

Peaceful ride with river barges and small villages (see the video)

Varied and interesting over 240km route on quiet roads

Best Experiences

Food and Wine

Paris Museums

The overall standard was very high with awesome variety; the bakeries, cheese shops and most cake shops were outstanding

Especially the Monet museum

Best Scenery

Montagne Sainte-Victoire

We cycled around it over 65km starting and finishing in Aix-en-Provence. The scenery was fantastic, nice villages, forests with the mountain visible from all angles most of the way

Best Place to Stay

Lourmarin

Dijon Apartment

Very comfortable and nicely decorated. After the bad experience on the first night in Avignon we were very pleased to be able to relax at the Le Petit Reve

Beatrice from Dijon Rent a Home was extremely helpful and conscientious. Highly recommended.

Best Restaurant

L’Assiette du Vin in Strasbourg

Au Tout Petit in Avignon

We were very pleased with the choice made on the recommendation from the Lonely Planet guide. It took us some time to find L'Assiette du Vin but it was well the effort - the food and the service were outstanding.

We were recommended Au Tout Petit by the owner of the B&B. The food was very creative and fresh. We were very impressed with such great quality in such a small place.
