Cabrerets Next Biarritz

We started early to avoid the heat and cycled to Cahors. We went to see St-Cirq-Lapopie on the way. We turned onto a minor road at Vers to avoid the traffic on the busy main road and found ourselves climbing several hundred meters above the river.

Hard work but the view of the river Lot below was magnificent.

By the time we reached Cahors it was very hot and we were faced with either a busy and dangerous main road to Mercues, or a 30km alternative, so we went to the train station to investigate a train. The train service has been replaced by a coach.

There were large luggage compartments underneath but they were divided into bays by partitions just too small for the bikes. The surly driver wouldn't leave his seat to help us, despite the fact we were delaying the bus.

We finally tried the compartments on the other side, which had no partitions and the bikes fitted in easily.

The B&B at Cahors was an old manor house that also offered dinner, and again there were 5 couples. It was as much fun as our previous experience at Le Bugue, although this time none of the guests had much English so we were mainly observers. But an extremely good way of observing the French culture.

The next day we went to Cahors on the bus. A large but attractive town. The bridge is the most notable landmark.
