Trip to Poreta Previous Next The Town

The journey took longer than we expected and it was growing dark as we arrived at Poreta, a few minutes before 7pm when the village shop closed.

By the time we had bought food for dinner it was full darkness.

Luckily Rosella, the shopkeeper, knew the accommodation. She closed the shop and walked with us to show us the way, and collected the key from the neighbor.

The accommodation was an old farm house. The walls were thick and roughly cement rendered inside, stone floors, simple country furniture.

It was clean and functional and had lots of character.

It had been a long day, a 100km or more of fairly hard cycling, and we had pushed hard for the last few kilometers to beat the dark and catch the shop.

We enjoyed a meal of cheese, cold meat, bread and wine and slept like logs in the comfortable bed.
