We took the ferry to
the mainland. We didn't need a ticket because normally
people buy a return ticket on the mainland; tickets
are neither sold or checked on the return leg. The bicycle
path goes onto the ferry on Texel and off again at Den
Helder. We cycled onto the ferry, along the
ferry to the other end and eventually off the ferry
onto the cycle path. |

The decision to abandon
the hotel on Texel was a good one. Despite a stiff headwind
and a poor nights sleep we enjoyed the ride south along
the North Sea Bicycle Route (LF3a). It
winds through dunes and forested areas along well made
paths. The weather was cool with light cloud, all in all
a refreshing change from the flat terrain and canals of
Friesland. There was a head wind but the path was winding
and fairly sheltered so it was refreshing rather than
onerous. |
