THE
NETHERLANDS AND BELGIUM 2006: Trip
Report |
|
After about
50km, around 5.30pm, we found a hotel at Egmond
aan Zee. It was the same price as the motel on
Texel but was friendly, comfortable and in good condition.
Above all it was quiet and dark. There were no restaurants
open but we had bought a selection of cold meats, bread,
cheeses and fruit for lunch at a supermarket in Den Helder.
We had the leftovers for dinner with a bottle of wine
and a box of chocolates. We had an early night and slept
like logs. |
The next day we woke
to rain and wind. However, by the time
we were ready to go, it had cleared. The ride to Haarlem
was again enjoyable, through varied and rough country.
The wind was stronger but, as on the previous day, it
was refreshing rather than painful. |

The bicycle route
LF3a overshoots Haarlem on the western
side to pass through pleasant parkland. We lost the
signs somewhere along the way and followed the local
bike path signs to the center for the last 4km. After
the customary lunch of beer and pancakes
at a cafe in the grand square we took the train to Delft. |
