SWITZERLAND
2009: Trip
Report |
|
On Monday we went for a bike ride
from Montreaux past Cavillon Castle, a famous landmark
and as far as St Gingolph. We had an enjoyable lunch
at a ‘creperie’ in France, 200 meters past
the unobtrusive notice that marked the border.
|

|
On the way back we got a phone
call from an alternative accommodation at Bouveret so
we hurried back to Montreaux, packed quickly, left the
balance of the rent and the key on the table, and locked
the door behind us on the way out.
We cycled to Villeneuve where Glen waited at the ferry
landing guarding the bikes whilst Margaret bought groceries.
Whilst we were packing we noticed a ferry approaching
and made a spur of the moment decision to take it.
|
 |
It was a good move because it
started pouring with rain and we would have been soaking
wet by the time we had cycled to Bouveret.
The apartment was in a marina, there were about six
blocks of modern apartments surrounding the lagoons.
The apartment was upmarket with all Miele appliances
and electric shutters on every window.
|
 |
Most of the apartments are only
occupied in the holiday season and it was virtually
deserted.
Bouveret is at the mouth of the Rhone. We did one day
ride, taking the train to Sion and then cycling back
down the river.
