We made the first touring day an easy one by taking the train to Apeldoorn leaving an easy 30km ride to our destination near Brummen. There was no elevator to our platform at Amsterdam Central Station:, but luckily two young guys stepped in to help us carry the fully loaded bikes up the long flight of stairs.

Most stations had elevators big enough to take bikes (as on the photo), the one on our platform at Amsterdam was under construction. They all looked new, so perhaps it is a new idea.

We were taking a local train. These have two story carriages and there is a large entry area on each carriage where we could secure the bikes, and still leave room for people to pass. There was even a two person seat in this area so we could sit down while keeping an eye on the bikes.

Margaret had fallen on her bicycle on the trip to Edam and had broken her mirror. We passed a bicycle shop in Apeldoorm and stopped to try and buy a replacement. They did not have one, but we had kept the bits of the broken one and the bike shop guy did a perfect on the spot repair; no charge.
