SWITZERLAND 2009: Trip Report

RAPPERSWIL

Bouveret

Our plane left in the evening and Werner said it was ok to use the apartment all day. That meant we could pack up the bikes a day later and so we had a free day.

We cycled to Bassersdorf. When we eventually found the cycle path it was well marked and we meandered through back roads and along various paths to the outskirts of Winterthur and then following the river to Juckern.

Then we had a long but steady climb up to the top of the range followed by a very long downhill to Lake Zurich at Rapperswil.

It took us some time to find our way through town to get to the wharf and were looking forward to a coffee. We saw two ferries and Margaret insisted that we check out the departure times first.

It turned out that both boats were leaving for Zurich in a few minutes. They were the last boats of the day and we understood the last boats of the year, they were shutting down for the winter season.

Both boats zigzagged across Lake Zurich, alternately going to a stop on one side of the lake and then the other.

The stewards paid little attention to us as they packed all the glasses and crockery into cardboard boxes for winter storage.
