DENMARK
2005: Trip
Report |
|
The ride to Ribe
was easy, it runs mainly along the seawall. There
was a
tail wind and the weather was perfect. Ribe is a beautiful
historical town with cobbled streets and
old shops.
The accommodation was extremely basic, a shack in the
courtyard at the rear of a house. It had two rooms,
bedroom and kitchen, and it was necessary to go outside
to get from one to the other.

We spent the morning
exploring and then had a long lunch with three
types of pickled herring and beer, sitting
by the edge of the river watching the wooden sailing
ships.
Before we went to Denmark, we had wondered why so many
reviews had mentioned pickled herring, and why anybody
would want to eat one type, much less three. It is delicious,
served with salads, eggs, caviar and other delicacies,
and ideal with Danish beer. |

From there
it was a short ride to Esbjerg along
the sea wall. Esbjerg is a commercial port with nothing
of particular interest so we had a last long lunch at
a restaurant in the Torvet before going to the ferry
terminal.
We celebrated a successful holiday by upgrading to Commodore
class on the ferry. |
