DANUBE 2010: Trip Report

EHINGEN

Sigmaringen Next Ulm

We had left the gorges and were now cycling across flat country. There was a tail wind and we made good progress. The weather was cloudy and it looked as if it could rain heavily at any moment but we were lucky apart from a couple of light showers.

We bought ingredients for a light picnic lunch, bread, cheese and ham on the way. We couldn't find a table so we ate it sitting on a bench by the side of the path. It was too late in the season for most touring cyclists. We had seen a couple as we left Donaueschingen but none passed whilst we were eating.

The ride was pleasant but not spectacular. We passed through pretty but strangely deserted villages every few kilometers. There was also some light industry and when we had to make a short detour because of path works we realized how close we were to busy main roads.

We finished the day at Ehingen where we booked into the Adler Hotel. We ate in the dining room and had an excellent and very reasonably priced meal.

We asked if there was a washing machine and the receptionist offered to do it for us at no charge. It was delivered to our room beautifully ironed but the next morning we found a 50 Euro laundry charge on our bill, which they insisted we pay.
